Imagine you belong to one of the following groups in 1789 France: nobles, high clergy, parish priests, the bourgeoisie, peasants or city workers. Write a letter to the king at the time (Louis XVI) explaining to him what are the chief problems at the time and offer to him some solutions to those problems.

ReplyDeleteThe problems that are happening are mainly occurring in economy. Peasants are rioting for food and the nobles are making royal tyranny due to the increasing of taxes. What I think in order to be out of this crisis is to spend some tax money on food and the rest to pay the debt of your predecessor Louis XIV who created deficit spending in the first place for wars. You should also give your people the right to speak because it is good to have many peoples' thoughts especially when there is a major crisis in the city.

ReplyDeleteThe biggest problem at the time is with economy. The country is deeply in debt due to Louis XIV.We are spending more money that we take in.All the tax that is taken is used to pay that debt. I know that in order to get back on track you need to increase taxes, but you could also decrease your spending. There is now a decrease in food. People are starving not know when they will eat again. People are starting to attack the rich in order to get food. Just because you had a bad harvest I don't think you should have raised food prices.I think that you guys should get back on track by coming up with a way to spend money wisely, and properly. you guys should get organized or else this government will die very fast, along with its people.

ReplyDeleteIt has come to my attention that a detrimental proceeding issue is the state of the economy. Since i am in the 3rd estate as a bourgeoisie i have to try twice as hard to try to reverse the deficit. We have to pay taxes to the 1st estate and its really taking a toll on my life as well as my families. It is so hard just to get by and with this major deficit on your hands its making it much harder. Given all the longterm flaws in the economy due to your errors leads me to believe that you do not care the the 3rd estates well being. The third estate as a whole would all agree to reform as well as some people who belong to the 1st and 2nd estate. I believe that you do not obtain the qualities to be an adequate ruler and for this reason you should expect insurrection from my fellow people because we are finished with your imbecilic tactics. Your methods are impractical as well as absurd and you are not fit to rule. This is the way that the whole 3rd estate feels about your methods which should speak volume to you since the 3rd predominately makes up the whole society that you rule.

I think it's completely unfair that we, the peasants and bourgeoisie, who are already struggling with our expenses have to pay higher taxes just to help with deficit spending than the first and second estate. Not to mention that those two estates are covered in wealth and are given everything for free its just unreasonable. The bourgeoisie is the most intelligent group of people who have jobs which are the most essential. I am apart of the bourgeoisie feel that it's degrading that we've worked so hard to get where we are and we are treated as if we don't exist. I think that maybe if you just lowered the taxes for the third estate it wouldn't be so hard to make a living under such high expenses. There needs to be some order in the economy right now it is in complete disarray. It is so hard to care for my own family who I've worked so hard for and now I have to be these ridiculous amount of tax money. As a ruler you should be dong what's best for the people not your own needs. Just because you have the power to arrange our government into demeaning social classes doesn't mean that it's fair.

But we are treated as less. We are doctors, professors, skilled artisans, and merchants who all have huge roles in society. We have jobs well some of us do but we barely make enough money to pay off the huge taxes that you put for us, and then there is barely enough money for food. i think that you should make some changes to your kingdom. It worries my family and I that we will soon no longer have any money to feed ourselves due to these huge taxes. We barely make any money to begin with, and these taxes are just so unbearable to deal with. I feel that you should lower the taxes to us peasants and make them higher to the people who make an actual profit. This is the most fairest solution that the other peasants and I could come up with.
