1)In 1979, the Soviet military placed the Fortieth Army along the Afghanistan border. The presidential palace in Afghanistan was stormed and Amin was killed. The Soviets also invaded cities in Afghanistan.
2)The conflict never ended. This war is still going on today. Terrorists plot an attack on the U.S. on September 11th, 2001 when they crashed the twin towers in New York.
3)I would support our side (the U.S.) because we just tried to help our allies but Afghanistan choose to fight us back.

  2. Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
    1) The war started when five Arab Nations invaded territory of the former Palestinian mandate right after they made an announcement regarding the Freedom and Independence of Israel in May 1948.
    2) The conflict ended in 1949 when Israel and the Arabian States agreed to armistice lines. This granted Israel some of the Palestinian territory.
    3) I would have supported the Israel side. They were following the rules from the United Nations, and the Arab States were obviously jealous of Israel.

  3. 1) In Afghanistan, Soviet influence began to increase after WWII. They were trying to modernize the traditional, Muslim country. Violence had spread from provinces to the Afghanistan cities. In 1979, the Soviet military posted the Fortieth Army along the Afghanistan border. A month later Soviet forces took hold of Kabul. Their leader Amin was killed and replaced immediately. In response to the Soviets invasion, guerrilla warfare was used by the rebel Mujahideen forces to avoid defeat. The U.S armed the Afghan guerrillas with surface to air missiles that took down many Soviet helicopters and aircraft.

    2) Afghanistan was left in complete devastation. Some 3 million Afghan refugees even fled to Pakistan. 40,000 soviet troops died and 1.5 million Afghans died during this violent battle. Soviet troops withdrew after suffering massive casualty amounts and financial setbacks.

    3) Explain whether which side you would have supported in the conflict and why
I would of supported the U.S. side because overall they were just trying to help Afghanistan fight for their traditional muslim country. Not only did they try to help them but in the end the U.S. President Jimmy Carter publicly denounced the Soviet invasion as a "blatant violation of accepted international rules", and led a boycott against the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games. They were trying to settle all conflicts with them by trying to save the traditional foundations of Afghanistan.

  4. 1) The conflict was after World war 2 Iraq and iran were having multiple religious and political disputes. However along with this was a dispute for a prime location called Khuzestan region. This was a prime spot filled with rich oils. This caused both territories to go to war. During this war the U.S publicly supported Iraq while secretly sending aid to Iran. WHile the Soviet Union publicly supported Iran and secretly sent aid to Iraq.

    2) Neither country was successful. They ended up in a 6 year stalemate until they both signed a "cease-fire" to agree to stop fighting. However the tensions from this war still exist today.

    3) I don't know which side I would've chosen because both the Soviet Union and the US were supports both opposing countries behind the others back. Both the Soviet Union and the US had the motive to gain oil from the Middle East.

  5. 1. After Word War II, the Soviet started acting upon Afghanistan by invading and attacking their cities. They put the Fortieth Army along the border of Afghanistan in 1979.

    2. The conflict never ended because this war is still happening today.

    3. I would support the U.S. first of all because I'm a citizen. Also because there's no reason for the Afghans to keep warring against us. All we did was support the other countries that we teamed up with. Now, I just think Afghanistan is just fighting just to fight.

  6. Iran-Iraq War
    1) The then Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein claimed as a reason for the invasion a territorial dispute over the Shatt al-Arab, a waterway which forms the boundary between the two countries.
    2) The Iran-Iraq War ended when both countries accepted UNSC Resolution 598. A ceasefire, in August, 1988. Relations between the two countries did not resume until Iraq's government was re-established.
    3) I support Iran, because I don't believe that any one nation has the right to invade another nation, especially for land. There is no way to justify loss of life because of a peace of property.

  7. Afghanistan

The conflict was yet again a result of the USA and the Soviet Union fighting with one another and using proxy warfare. They both tore Afghanistan apart. Many people on both sides died 40,000 Soviet troops and 1.5 million civilians. The conflict was resolved eventually. I would have supported the USA because communism sounds ridiculous and I like Freedom.

  8. Iran-Iraq War
    1. Both territories finally succumbed to war after prolonged tension between the two. They would always fight over political and religious issues but war finally broke ground when the two were fighting over the Khuzestan region in which provided an abundance of helpful resources. The US took iraq's side and The USSR took Irans side.
    2. A cease fire was agreed upon, however contention between the two heightened and never really subsided. The tension is still present today.
    3. I don't really have a justifiable reason to side with either of them.

  9. Iran-Iraq War

    1. After many political and religious tensions between the two war finally broke out when the two were fighting over a region of many helpful resources. The USSR sided with Iran and Iraq sided with the US.

    2. A cease fire was agreed upon by both countries even though the tensions between the two never ended but got even bigger.

    3. I wouldn't side with either of them because i believe war should never happen no matter what the reason is behind it.

  12. Iran-Iraq War
    1) The conflict was about two countries name Iran and Iraq had a dispute about the borders along Iran and Iraq. The war was started because the Iraqi thought that the Iranian revolution was going to inspire a certain suppressed society in Iraq.
    2) A ceasefire called the Resolution 598 was created from the UN that both sides has accpeted.
    3) I would choose Iraq's side because if an Iranian idea is brought to Iraq then they will fear that Iraq will have the same rules, government structure , and etc.

  16. Iran-Iraq War
    1) the war was between iran and iraq and the war began because when the iranian people were having a revolution iraq thought that their people would get the idea of having a revolution and they didn't want that
    2) They ceased fire in August of 1988, they basically both signed a treaty, called UNSC Resolution 598.
    3) i think that i would have supported the iranian people because iraq only started the war because the iraq people had no reason to start the war with Iran just because they didnt want their people to start a revolution. it doesnt really make sense they had no reason to do so and in the end they were at a stalemate so what was the point of the war.

  17. Iran-Iraq war
    1) this was was about Iran and Iraq when the people from iran were starting a revolution and the Iraq people didn't want this to influence the people from Iraq.
    2) Iran and Iraq signed a treaty.

  18. Iran-iraq war
    1) its started basically because the Iranian people started a revolution and the rulers of Iraq believed that the the citizens would follow in their footsteps and conduct the same actions.
    2) Both countries signed an armistance which is an aggrement to stop fighting,
    3) I would be on the Iranians side because they were simply trying to start a revolution and the people from Iraq made assumptions and took things out of hand

  21. Iran-Iraq war:
    1) The war between Iraq and Iran started because the Iranian people decided to start a revolution and those who ruled Iraq believed felt threatened because they thought that their citizens would be influenced and they would just follow the Iranian people did.
    2) In 1988 Iran and Iraq signed a treaty.
    3) Considering the facts behind why Iraq started war, I think I probably would've been on Iran's side because I feel like Iraq didn't have a good enough reason to start a war that damaged and killed so many people.

  22. Iran-Iraq War
1: The war began because of a Iranian revolution for a new ruler of Iraq.
2: A treaty was signed in 1988 (UNSC Resolution 598).
3: I think I would have been on Iran's side because Iraq had no reason to start war with them and ask because they were politically unstable.

  23. During 1979 the Soviets attack Afghanistan, why? Because there was tension between Afghanistan and Pakistan. The conflict ended when Gorbachev has his "New Idea" to change things around and played a big factor as to why Russia decided to leave.i would have not supported the Russians because they decided to invade a country who already had a civil war going on and id simply join the side trying to stop it.

  27. Afghanistan

This conflict arose when proxy warfare came into play between the US and Soviet Union. Proxy warfare is when a nation's alliances are a part of the conflict between two powers, in order to provide defense. I would side with the US because I would never support dictatorship, and as we see today, it was never resolved.

    1) The Afghanistan Conflict was about how Afghanistan became free from the US or the USSR powers and they became a independent country. Although they were free from Soviet Rules they were still under their influence. The Soviets has helped with the Afghanistan coup d'etat.Violence has spread out through Afghanistan and eventually people who opposed seeked US for help
