Blog # 21 - War..what is it good for...absolutely nothing!!!
1) Using two examples from history (whether we've studied it or not), describe a situation when you think its ok to go to war (justified) and a situation when you don't think its ok to go to war (not justified).
2) Respond to at least one other person's post and explain whether you agree with their example or not and why.

It's justified to go to war when it's nationalism. I don't really know when it's unjustified...

DeleteIt ok to go to war if someone is going to attack your country I believe you must defend your land. I believe its not ok to go to war when your just trying to take something someone else has and take them down. If country's can work together why wouldn't they unite to become stronger.

DeleteI agree. I think that it is always okay to defend your country's honor in cases of warfare. Which was also known as Nationalism, which was a major factor leading to WWI.
DeleteIts okay to go to war when the Japanese secretly planned to attack Pearl Harbor. I think it was fine for president Franklin D Roosevelt to declare war against Japan.

Vanessa although I get what your point is , I don't understand what your trying to say. Also the next time you do another blog post you should try to associate only world history instead of US history.Overall , you could've done better
DeleteI believe that if you're fighting for your rights and it results in a war I believe that it should be acceptable. For example women were fighting for better working conditions and for women's rights which resulted in WWI. I also think another reason that war would be justified is in case of Nationalism because I believe that it always right to fight for what you believe in. Having a firm and excessive belief in one's on culture, traditions, economy and religion can never be wrong even in the case of war.

DeleteI think war is justifiable when you have to defend your country because if you lose your country then that means your colonies and your industries which causes a Great Depression within the people that are in that country that were lost. I think it's unjustifiable when there is war because of nationalism because through nationalism even a small financial problem between two countries can trigger a war.

DeleteI feel that it's okay to go to war when alliances start getting involved. When 2 or more of a nation's enemies are forming alliances with each other to gain power over you, this can be a form of provoking a nation. Therefore, in your defense, you should always be on guard and ready to fight back your enemies before they do damage.
ReplyDeleteI feel that war is only okay when you feel that your countries well being is threatened. I don't feel that nationalism is a good enough reason to go to war. However when your leader such as during world war 1 is assassinated that is a good reason to get back at the country who killed them.

DeleteI do not agree with the Idea of war, but the only way war could be justifiable is when your country is being invaded as a method of self defense, and when another country cannot stand up for themselves and make alliances with other countries.

DeleteI think war is justified only when another country is being threatened greatly and also when you are fighting for a reasonable cause such as gaining rights and independence. Only if there is a good explanation for why war is happening. War should not occur if its for one to gain power or territory. If its beneficial only for one individual then its not a reasonable explanation.

DeleteI think WW1 was not justified. Mainly because all the beliefs such as militarism, nationalism, and imperialism were leading causes. These beliefs triggered the desire for greater empire which meant war had to be started. So saying these beliefs were not open at the time there would be a chance the war would not have even happened. The exception to WW1 is the assassination of the archduke. I think not showing anger with the intent to attack would show weakness in the nation.

ReplyDeleteI think was is used in times when we don't need to actually fight. People go to war when nations feels powerless or the need to defend themselves. It annoys me because killing innocent soldiers who risk there lives for their country doe s not solve anything.
ReplyDeleteI believe war is justifiable only if there is unjust behavior present. An example of unjust behavior can be taking away someones rights, or enforcing a strict government in which limits peoples inalienable rights. An example of a war that was justified due to the sovereign abusing their power was during the French revolution. If there was no rebellion during that time(which caused the outbreak of war) the situation would have drastically different results. I do no believe war is justified when people just want to destroy other nations for not being like them or adhering to their customs(fascism). Another reason to justify war can be defending your country from another nation. If someone declares war on you, you have every right to fight back.

ReplyDeleteOne reason I think it is ok to go to war if a leader or someone high in power is killed/assassinated. I don't think that war should ever be the answer but if a leader or someone high in power is killed, i believe it is ok to go to war. Like when Archduke Ferdinand was killed. An unjust reason to go to war is for land. Why should you go to war for land? Make do with what you have, you shouldn't take over or start a war with another country just because you want their land. I don't think that war should ever b used, but some reasons are better than others.

Delete1) Two events that have happened in the past which i think are justified/unjustified are the war of iraq, i think this war was necessary because the U.S is in need of natural recourses and where would we be if we didn't try to get them.
ReplyDeleteI think that a historical event that was unjustified was the Vietnam war because the U.S didn't really have a solid reason to take the actions they did with this war.
So wwI aye, it could feel like you wanna go to war, but it depends on the situation that's gonna happen. Like for example if an allaicne is formed then war is ahead and it will happen, unless you break the alliance apart then war is here, must be prepared

For example if the war is over land like an enemy country is trying to take over land then I think its right to go to war because your defending your land. Another reason that you should go to war is when your country is being threatened or something. I don't think its right to go to war when its for the other countries enjoyment or pride. If they're going to war just for that then its wrong.

DeleteI think that it is ok to go to war when you're either threatened or hit. Just like when you fight someone In real life you get a heavier sentence if you throw the first punch. Like Germany during ww1 they were the common enemy so they seemed worse and had their army taken away from them. Also I think that it was ok when American joined ww1 or ww2 (I forgot which one it was) when the Zimmerman note was intercepted and decoded and they joined the war because they felt threatened. I think it's not ok to go to war to assert dominance like In ww2 Germany wanted to show that it was better than everyone else by attacking everyone else.
ReplyDeleteI think it is justified to go to war when a country is threatened, and when a country strongly believes in nationalism. When a country is threatened, they need to be able to defend themselves. An example from history could be when Japan decided to bomb Pearl Harbor as a surprise attack. The United States had no other option but to declare war. Countries such as America and Germany and Russia are very proud of their country. They want to show everyone how powerful they are, so they go to war.

Say you have been fighting for something for awhile now and nothing has changed, youu need to use violence to get what you want. Civil Wars mostly happen because people want chnage in their own countrie. Their ruler isnt helping them and they are sick and tired of how they are treated. Other than wanting a good change in your country war isnt truly necessary.
ReplyDeleteDuring the Vietnam War, many argued whether it was a just war or not. Those who believed that is was just, would agree that the use of war was to stop the spread of communism and secondly to strengthen the alliance between USA and Australia. Standing up for another who was being “bullied” was a just enough reason.
ReplyDeleteI feel that the only way war is justified to be okay is when you feel that your countries are threatened. A reason that i feel that is not not a good enough reason to go to war is nationalism, only under the circumstance where your leader was assassinated in a battle. I feel like that is a considerable reason to go to war for nationalism because its only fair to get back at the country who killed your leader.
ReplyDeleteI think that is it only acceptable at times where self defense is needed. For instance, if your country is trying to be taken over, and you don't want it to be taken over, then fight for it! I think another reason war would be justified would be Nationalism. I believe it is okay to fight for your country, and show your pride and loyalty.
ReplyDeleteIt is okay to go to war in the situation where one is trying to benefit for themselves through land and economic stability. However, it is unjust to go to war if your only intentions are dominance and superiority.

ReplyDeleteIn some case you might need to go to war to defend yourself.But other times it isn't necessary. I believe that you should form allies and peace treaties, but I don't think that you should help another country if they go to war. I don't its worth risking the lives of your country for others. war causes population decrease, enemies, and a bad economy sometimes. Depending on the outcome of the war, sometimes you could lose your whole country and it could get taken over.I don't think that war is something people should do. Everyone should just keep their lives and help each other that's it, we shouldn't have power seeking rulers.

ReplyDeleteI believe that war is justified when you're political and natural rights are infringed upon. For example, in WW2, we were deliberately attacked by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor, resulting in the U.S. joining the Allied Powers.
ReplyDeleteIt was justified to go to war when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, because of an act to defend from further treat. It is unjust to go to war when trying to gain power (ex: Hitler killing people and acts of fascism).

ReplyDeleteI think the Vietnam War was justified because China and South Asia wanted to make the whole world Communist's and the U.S wanted to help the countries, as well as ourselves so that we wouldn't be communists. I feel like it was a good reason to go to war because our whole government would of been affected as well as a lot of other countries governments. I think that world war 2 was not justified because if Germany would just be about peace like every other country after ww1 then we wouldn't of been in that situation
I think it was justified when the Japanese people had decided to bomb Pearl Harbor because thousands if not hundred of thousands of people had died which really wasnt right for the Japanese to do.
ReplyDeletewhat i think wasnt justifed was when Germany had started WW2 because they said they wouldnt go to war and they only would if they were given a reason but they were greedy and tried to expand their country and they were going to other countries and they tried to conquer them which wasnt justified
I think war is justified only if another country is attacking you. For instance, Americans in World War 2, where we had a neutrality act set up with everyone, however we were attacked by the Japanese which ultimately caused us to enter the war. We had no reason for conflict other than the fact of us being bombed, and if you need to attack other countries in order to support your own, than i believe your country isn't as strong as it may seem.

ReplyDeleteI think it was a definite "Go get em" when on December 7th, 1941 were the Japanese Empire surprise attacked the American military base Pearl Harbor located in Hawaii causing over 2000 casualties to American military. I don't think war is justified if 2 nations don't like each other, like come on, tension between 2 nations is a very common cause for war, and its not such a big deal not like each other, just get out of each others way.

Another example is an alliance can be formed but it can have a country betraying another country which may cause a war between each other.

ReplyDeleteit was ok for england and other allied european nations to go to war with hitler because he needed to be stoped before he concurred europe. it was not ok for germany to go to war with poland because they didnt have any reason to at all.

ReplyDeletepersonally I feel that war is justified when there is and injustice in the world. If there is slavery going on and people are being abused then war is necessary. I bereave that injustice can only be responded with justice. so, yes in some circumstances war is justified.
