Napoleon is a very controversial figure. Many historians admire his accomplishments and argue that all military generals and even some politicians could learn a thing or two by studying how he ruled France. Other historians point to his strict and sometimes cruel use of force in parts of Europe to ensure his laws were followed. Assume the role of a historian.

In my opinion I feel Napoleon was a hero. He came into power and made France become more powerful and stable again. He created Napoleonic code that gave more rights to the French people. For instance, two of the code that really benefited the people were freedom of religion and stated that privileges were not set with birth. This allowed for them to be more equal as a country and gave them the right for their own beliefs. Something else that Napoleon did was the Napoleon wars. These set of wars were against other countries that opposed France rule and actions. The war very greatly benefitted France. It allowed it to gain a lot of power and spread it across the territories which it conquered. Most of these territories made up most of central Europe. Napoleon also centralized the government by appointing prefects to divided departments that France. So Napoleon can be seen as a hero for the examples that are presented above.

He also had a goal which was to unify Europe under democracy so there would no longer be war. In man he may be considered a villain, but only to his enemies.
ReplyDeleteI think Napoloeon was a hero because his dreams was to control all of europe into one liberal government but instead he granted constitution , introduced new law codes , and fostered (support) the idea of education , science , literature and the arts.He absorbed what he learned from the French Revolution and turned it into new codes and he also abolished surfdom meaning getting rid of surfdom. He was also the one that discovered the rosetta stone in 1799 when he was in the middle of a war.

DeleteI feel that napoleon is a hero because he stepped into power and made changes to better benefit all of france. He didn't come into power to satisfy his selfish needs. Although he had to enforce his rules using hostile tactics that seemed "cruel'' they were only used to promote a better france. He made France powerful again after the very disastrous period of time that fell right before he came into power.

ReplyDeleteI agree. I think that even though a lot of people considered him a villain, I think he was just really concerned about France. Being a leader you have to put on a strong exterior to be taken seriously. Because Napoleon made so many advances I think he should take on the name of hero.

He also brought in the arts, science, and literature which brought much knowledge in France. However i disagree with Napoleon's way of controlling the state, since he was very strict. I do not think that having spies around France to catch whoever disagreed with him was a good idea, since it gave limited human rights.

I would say Napoleon was considered a hero because he started to gain military experience at a young age and knew what he was doing when he did it. He did do plenty of good things like bringing knowledge to France such as science, the arts, and literature. So when him and 2 other men were appointed to be the head of the government, the other two guys died and he took charge and brought their government back up by giving the freedom of religion, helped abolishing feudalism, and introduced more science and art into France. His military goals were made for France to become better and a better place to live. Even though I think that Napoleon was a hero for the people of France, some people wouldn't believe this because the the people that didn't share the same views as him the undercover police would shut them down. he would even shut down plays that had views that questioned his. Also the civilizations around France could see Napoleon as a villain because he was a threat to the countries surrounding France because he was a military mastermind and conquered land in central Europe.
