1) 1940s- Atomic Bomb Development
ReplyDeleteThe development of the Atomic Bomb attributed to the Cold War because there was a constant threat of an atomic bomb explosion. Since the Soviets sent missiles to Cuba which is directly under the United States, there was always that fear that at any moment a bomb could destroy the United States in minutes.
2) 1960's- Berlin Wall
The Berlin Wall had an impact on the Cold War because it showed that one country could be divided because of two separate beliefs in government. The West of Germany sided with the United States and didn't agree with Communism. The East of Germany sided with the Soviets and they agreed with Communism. This wall was put up to divide Germany and lasted for about 30 years.

2) 1960 THE CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS
It effected the Cold War because the Soviet Union was trying to make missiles in Cuba but The United States didnt want the Soviet Union or the Cubans to be able to have the power of having nuclear warfare so they were going to invade and destroy them but the Soviet Union said they weould dismantle it
1940s-Nike Missiles: They were first developed to counter parallel weaponry attempts by The Soviets. The Missile System came into affect mostly due to the dear that one day the Soviets would contract bomber warcraft capable of hitting the U.S. The other use of the Nike Missiles was to protect Strategic Air Command Buildings.

To counter blockade the western powers airlifted a total of 2,326,406 tons of food, coal, passengers, and other items into the city in a total of 278,228 flights.

1970s- Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster
A nuclear power plant in Chernobyl of northern Ukraine was running tests in case of a power outage. To get accurate results the technicians had to shut down the safety. At 1:23 am the reactor got out of control and exploded. The explosion killed 31 people immediately. The radiation poison would damage thousands of others. This would influence the way the world would see and use nuclear energy.

Not long before this, the U.S. had used atomic bombs in Japan to make them surrender during World War II.
1950s- Bomber Gap:
"Bomber Gap" relates to the fear of Soviet superiority of bombers in an area between continents. Soviets flew their "Bear and Bison" bombers past American observers multiple times."The Soviets had developed the Bison bomber (built to carry a nuclear bomb all the way to the US), but it was unclear whether they had only one, or one hundred." America was scared for the right reasons. The Soviets were trying to psych us out.

ReplyDeleteThe 1940s atomic bomb was advertised as a powerful weapon was okay, and they made it out to be that this weapon wasn't as powerful as it is and ever since the creation of the Atomic bomb people have been in terror that their might be an explosion in their city/country/civilization because other countries such as in Europe had such a powerful possession of it, and because of that they ultimately had more power over other countries. The United States was always at risk with atomic bomb bombings when it was created because of the fact that the USSR sent missiles to Cuba which is very close to the United States.

After World War 2, Joseph Stalin being one the greatest nationalism enthusiastic, had his country becoming a nuclear power. Stalin was the dictator of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) over eastern and central Europe, and because of Stalin the Soviet Union was transformed from a poor society into an industrial and military society.
1940's Nato: Nato was formed as an alliance created by the U.S and Europe to stop the Soviet Union from taking over and spreading communism. Many countries followed and also joined Nato so they were protected from the USSR taking over.

West Germany benefited more economically and politically while East Germany struggled because they were communist.

1) The Berlin Wall- The Berlin Wall separated Germany. It was divided into East and West Germany. East Germany joined the Warsaw Pact, and West Germany joined NATO. The western side became more powerful and also joined forces with the united states. The Eastern sided with the Soviet Union.

After stalins death the soviet policy continued. Which lead to the cold war ending with the fall of the Soviet union in 1991.
1950s- The Bomber Gap: was the fear that the Soviet Union gained an advantage in having access to jet-powered strategic bombers. The Soviets also had access to the Bison bomber to carry a nuclear bomb to the U.S., but no one knew how much they had. This then increased the fear of the Americans and made the Soviets more superior.
ReplyDelete1960- The Cuban Missile Crisis: organized by the USSR to shoot missiles at and into Cuba. The U.S. didn't want Cuba and the Soviet Union to have nuclear power warfare. Eventually, everyone came to an agreement and got rid of all missiles.
1960s-cuban missile crisis-the soviets shipped nuclear warheads to cuba. the u.s. intercepted the ships and they remained at a standoff for a few days. eventually the soviets turned around and left. this was important because it was the closet the u.s. and the soviets ever came to actual war.

After the Berlin Wall was constructed, separating Eastern and Western Germany, it created a huge conflict because the Eastern part of Germany was all communists, while the Western part of Germany was all democratic.
1950s- During the 50s there was a war that brake out in Asia called the Korean War. The Korean War was a war between North and South Korea. On South Korea's side there was the US and NATO and on the North Korean's side was the Soviet Union and China. The impact that the war had on the Cold War was that the war became global which led to the deaths of many soldiers from different country.

Since World War II and the attack on Japan with the atomic bomb that destroyed there country, an atomic bomb was not used, however Soviet Russia used an atomic bomb which scared the United States making them a threat to us.

ReplyDelete1960's-During 1960's the cuban missile crisis was something that lead to the cold war because the Soviet Union was trying to secretly make missiles in Cuba but the United States didnt want the Soviet Union to be able to have the power of a nuclear warfare so president Kennedy said if they do not take down the missiles that they were going to invade the U.S.S.R.
-On April 26 1986 when the cold war was starting to end, a nuclear power plant built in Chernobyl, North of Ukraine exploded. Due to this explosion thousands of citizens occupying this part of Ukraine had been affected by nuclear radiation and 36 died immediately after the explosion. This was kept a secret by the Soviets for about a day until the entire world became aware of it because of various plants recording unusual high levels of radiation in the area. This opened up the worlds eyes and made it realize that maybe nuclear power plants where probably not the best choice of power for a city.It also showed the world that the Soviets where very secretive about what occurred within their communities, this may of changed peoples minds about them for the worse.
ReplyDelete-On 1948 "Operation Vittle" had come to act by the U.S. In this operation the U.S flew over 2 million tons of food, coal, passengers and other supplies to Western Berlin because of the Berlin blockade.

ReplyDeleteAs a response to NATO, the establishment of the Warsaw pact intensified the cold war. Since NATO began to see the Warsaw pact as a potential militaristic threat and a sign of communist dominance they believed that communism would become more aggressive and go to war against Eastern Europe. The practice of containment was also increased in the United States.

Even though the six day war started due to tensions between Israel and Egypt, Jordan, and Syria in the Middle East, it still had a full effect on the cold war. This is because it can be considered a proxy war between the United States and the Soviet Union. Supplying these Middle Eastern countries with weapons, the United States allied with Israel while the Soviet Union sided with the Arab nations. It was also a war lost by the Soviet Union to the United States. It made it apparent to the Soviets that U.S. weapons could defeat them.

ReplyDeleteThis powerful weapon was developed in 1940 by the united states of America. We only used this massively destructive weapon a few ties in history. But, when we discovered this weapon other powerful nations wanted them as well. This is what led to the arms race.

ReplyDeleteThe Atomic Bomb's became a problem in the cold war when the Soviet Union sent Missiles to Cuba. It is now known was the Cuban Missiles crisis. The threat of the a Bomb going off at any known moment was a scary thing. It was a new kind of threat, because it was something that nobody's seen before.
2) 1960's- Berlin Wall
The Berlin Wall was put up in 1961, and taken down in 1989. It spent more than 25 years up between east and west Germany. It created the Berlin airlift which, meant that the US brought food to the west side. The West side was democratic and the east was communism. The west was part of the NATO and the east was part of the Warsaw Pact.
